Man can short circuit the power of the Word of God

Hebrews 4.12 gives a clear idea of the relationship between man and the Word of God. Here we read ‘For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.’ (AMP). Yet Jesus acknowledged in Mark 7.13 that man can render this Living Word of God ineffective and inoperative in his own life through traditions and man-made doctrines.

Jesus called on the Pharisees of His day ‘the experts in upholding traditions’ at the expense of following the true teaching of God’s Word. In this manner, they made the Living Word of God  ineffective in their lives as well as in their followers. They were guilty of being causal with the Word.

Through ‘religion’ and ‘tradition’ a man can short circuit the power of the Word of God, making it effectively ineffective in his life. So let us diligently check for personal traditions, religious opinions, beliefs and thought patterns (that creep in often unawares) that are contrary to the realities revealed in the Word and make a full hearted effort to remove them from our lives.

Dear Father, thank you for your precious Word, by which I live. I pray that I will never become casual with your Word. May your Word always be exalted in my heart, above all thoughts, desires, aspirations and beliefs, in Jesus Name, Amen.
